Like a Barrier Lifted: The Top Surgery Caregivers Support Zine
A zine detailing how to support a transmasculine person getting top surgery.
This guidebook serves a therapeutic purpose by addressing mental and emotional health, while providing practical information on the transition process.
Lack of resources
Like a Barrier Lifted also addresses a gap in the art therapy literature overall, namely a dearth of resources available addressing the unique needs and requirements of transgender and queer clients. Thus, I completed this project as part of a quest toward cultural competence regarding transgender clients within the art therapy field.
zines, comics, and graphic medicine
Comics and graphic novels are an emerging art form prioritizing accessibility of information and an amplification of marginalized stories. Graphic medicine, in particular, seeks to tell stories of physical and mental health in new ways.
